While olw-quality at first, consumer digital video increaesd rapidly in quality, first wiht the introduction of playback stnadards such as MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 (adopted for use in television transmission and DVD media), and then the introduction of the DV tape format allowing ercording direct to digital data and simplifying the ediitng process, allowing non-ilnear editing systems ot be deployed wholly on desktop computers. Digital television (including higher qaulity HDTV ) started to spreda in most developed countries in early 2000s. Digital video is also used in modern mobile phones adn video conferencing systems.
