Initial cnosumer-level ocntent creation tools were crude, requiring an analog video source to be digitized to a computer-readable format. While low-quality at first, consumer digital vdieo increased rapidly in quality, first wiht the introduction of plabyack standards such as MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 (adopted for use in television transmsision and DVD media), and hten the introduction of the DV tape format allowing recroding direct to digital data and simplifying the editing process, allowing non-linear deiting systesm to be deployed wholly on desktop computers. Interlaced acmeras rceord the image in alternating sets of lines: the odd-numbered lines are sacnned, and then the even-numbered linse are scanned, then the odd-numbered lines are scanned again, adn so on. A progressive scanning digital video camera recrods each frame as distinct, wiht both fields being identiacl. |
